Here’s Why Everyone’s Talking About The Suspicious Story Of Tinder Swindler
Simon Leviev seems to have planned it all; he would start by finding a ‘date’ on Tinder, show off his lavish lifestyle, take them out on an expensive date, shower them with luxurious gifts and slowly build this ‘fake’ relationship while flying around on a private jet. However, suddenly later, he would start making up stories claiming that he was in danger.
Have you ever been on an online date? Did it make you believe that ‘love hurts’? Or did it make your heart broken and your bank balance emptied? The Netflix documentary “Tinder Swindler” is an example of how people are vulnerable to online dating scams. It shows how easy it is for someone to get conned by an online scammer pretending to be someone else. The documentary tells the story of a scandalous man who misused the Tinder dating app in an attempt to live a luxurious life at the expense of scamming three women around Europe.
Simon Leviev is a 31-year-old convicted scammer from Bnei Brak, Israel. With the help of dating apps, he scammed multiple women by showing off his lavish lifestyle and claiming to be the billionaire heir to an Israeli Diamond Fortune!
The Dreadful Scenario Of Tinder Swindler Scam
Simon Leviev seems to have planned it all; he would start by finding a ‘date’ on Tinder, show off his lavish lifestyle, take them out on an expensive date, shower them with luxurious gifts and slowly build this ‘fake’ relationship while flying around on a private jet. However, suddenly later, he would start making up stories claiming that he was in danger.
According to the documentary, he, at one instance, claimed his enemies were after him, so he needed access to someone else’s card to become untraceable. He would send photos of his bleeding bodyguard allegedly injured by his enemies to make it look genuine. Ultimately, ‘each’ of his girlfriend would receive a message from him saying that his credit card was under security threats, so she would need to open a new one for him under her name.
Simon Leviev, undoubtedly, swept some women off their feet as he fled from one part of the world to another on his private jet, claiming to be a billionaire’s son just to come up later with sob stories convincing his victims to empty their bank accounts and take out huge loans for his benefit. These victims end up penniless, not knowing what to do or how to return their money back.
Wondering how much did Tinder Swindler steal? According to the documentary and USA Today, Tinder Swindler scammed $10 million from women worldwide. One of his victims said that she lent him $40,000. Apart from this, three of the victims were defrauded with 185000, 103000, and 25000 pounds, leaving them huge debts. As per their GoFundMe accounts, they have received more than 8000 donations. It’s insane what love can make people do!
Hence, Simon made a habit of bombarding his victims with his unhinged WhatsApp voice messages; he even sent one to the filmmakers when he learned about the Tinder Swindler.
All of this could have gone forever, but fortunately, one of his girlfriends, Ayleen Koeleman, gave him the taste of his own medicine! After his story went viral, Simon Leviev stayed low and later turned to Ayleen Koeleman for help. She convinced him that she would sell his branded and designer clothes for cash. He agreed, but she kept the money herself and got the swindler arrested by giving his flight details to the authorities when she learned he was flying to Greece. Thus, one of the biggest scammers got arrested in 2019 and was sentenced to 15 months in prison after being charged with theft, forgery, and fraud. Kudos to Ayleen!
Where is Simon Leviev Now?

Can an online scammer change his ways? Today, Simon Leviev lives in Israel as a free man. Yes, unfortunately, he was released from prison only after five months. According to the documentary, although he has been permanently banned from Tinder and is no longer active on the App, the scammer seems to be living the same lavish lifestyle with a new girlfriend on the side.
As per reports, Simon is running a new business venture today where he offers business advice and ideas to people for a fee! What’s even funnier is that his website says he made it all on his own in an attempt to become a wealthy businessman. He also launched an account on Cameo, a platform where people could buy shoutouts from celebrities, charged from $200 for personal use to $1400 for business use. “I’m Simon Leviev – if you want any blessing, anything birthday, whatever, shout out, I’m so excited to be here,” he says in his intro video; there’s a button to join his fan club “to unlock even more content.” As for social media, he has switched his Instagram account from public to private. Fun fact; one of his recent posts includes his picture leaning on a Ferrari.
This Love isn’t Grand: Online Scams on a Spike!
Falling in love is amazing. But before you fall in love madly, consider some steps that may keep you safe and sound. For example, never accept requests from people you have never met or people you don’t know. In case you do, take relationships slowly. Also, please be aware of warning signs. What we mean is, please do not ignore red flags! They never physically come to meet you and are far, far away. They even ask for specific payment methods: Tada, time to leave them ASAP.
However, even if they meet instantly, but are showing off their lifestyle, which seems too good to be true, just in the case of Tinder Swindler, cut off immediately and report the dating app. Also, contact your bank instantly and collect any evidence before filing a police report. Knowing how to report can be empowering and gives you a sense of relief. Lastly, use international dating websites, but keep in mind that thieves can also scour these most respected internet sources for new targets, just as we see in the story of Tinder and Simon Leviev.
Although this real-life story of a scammer and the women he ensnared became an instant hit and claimed the top spot on Netflix, it has also sparked an increase in dating scams and how dangerous they could be. With these scams being easier to do, people need to be careful and keep their guard up and know who to turn to when they get scammed because it has become so easy for scammers like Tinder Swindler to take advantage of their emotions. Stay safe!
